SZFE 2020 – A Story That Lives On

 

We had the privilege of winning the design competition for the former visual identity of the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE), which was unanimously approved by the university’s students, alumni, and leadership.

In 2020, the university reached a turning point in its history: it lost its institutional autonomy, giving rise to the FreeSZFE movement — a symbol of free artistic education and independent thinking.

 

That same year, the book SZFE 2020 was published — edited by Attila Damokos, Marcell Nagy, and Máté Szórád, with graphic design by DE_FORM, (Enikő Déri, Nóra Demeczky, Sára Vilma Nagy, and printing by EPC Nyomda. The book’s photos and concept were created by Attila Damokos, Marcell Nagy, and Máté Szórád, with Soma Rétfalvi as photo assistant, Borbála Keszei as stylist, and Anita Törköly and Alíz Varga responsible for makeup. Contributors included György Báron, Mihály Csernai, Ibolya Fekete, D. Géza Hegedűs, Magdolna Jákfalvi, Kristóf Kelemen, M. Tóth Géza, Gábor Máté, Gábor Németh, Dorka Porogi, Hajnal Sellő, Gábor Székely, Barnabás Szőlősi, Zsófia Taller, László Upor, Attila Vidnyánszky Jr., Gábor Zsámbéki, and Sándor Zsótér.

 

In the years since, the FreeSZFE community has not only preserved the spirit of the former university but has also built something new upon it. In 2025, they reached another milestone: the Municipality of Budapest granted them an official building, recognizing the community’s perseverance and creative contribution to Hungarian cultural life.
